Café Veldemeers
If you are looking for the perfect place to unwind in Harare, look no further than Café Veldemeers. Tucked away in the vibrant hub of Arundel Village, Mount Pleasant, this spot has evolved into one of the absolute best coffee shops in Zimbabwe—and it is a true local favourite.
The story behind it is pure magic. It all started back in 1997 when Belgian chocolatier Hans Van Hooreweghe brought his hometown’s authentic recipes to Zimbabwe. After capturing our hearts (and sweet teeth) with his legendary Veldemeers Belgian chocolates, Hans teamed up with beloved local designer and organic foodie Ros Byrne. Together, they combined European pastry craftsmanship with fresh, homegrown Zimbabwean flair. They opened the café’s doors on Belgian National Day in 2015, and we’ve been hooked ever since.
Here is why you need to add it to your Harare itinerary:
- The Vibe: Artistically designed by Ros, the space strikes the perfect balance between a chic European bistro and a relaxed, sunny Zimbabwean hangout.
- The Food: The menu effortlessly bridges the entire day. You can swing by for an early morning espresso and a flaky, buttery croissant, enjoy a sun-drenched lunch on the patio, or settle in for a cosy evening of wine and tapas.
- The Treats: You cannot leave without trying the pastries or picking up a box of their famous top-quality chocolates.
Whether you are fueling up before a day of sightseeing or looking to mingle with the local community, Café Veldemeers delivers a warm, welcoming taste of Harare life.
